Termez is considered one of the most ancient not only among Uzbek cities, but also in Central Asia. Its location is the right bank of the Amu Darya. On the other side are the possessions of neighboring Afghanistan. According to legend, Termez was founded by the first king of Bactria - Zoroaster. For the first time its name was mentioned in the sixth century, and in 2002 the city celebrated its 2500th anniversary.
The sights of Termez can be divided into Buddhist (1-3 centuries) and Muslim (17-20 centuries).

- Fayaz Tepe is the ruins of a Buddhist temple complex and a detached stupa. There was also a monastery here. During excavations, archaeologists found here a limestone monument to Buddha covered with gilding, many figurines of deities and household items. The memorial was distinguished by a very rich painting. Nowadays, Fayaz Tepe is considered an open-air museum. A domed room was built over the Buddhist stupa to protect it from the effects of wind and rain.
- Kara Tepa settlement - in the period from the second to the fourth century, this complex was the center of Buddhism in the region. Throughout the complex there were many temples and monasteries, both terrestrial and cave. During excavations, archaeologists have found stone sculptures of the Buddha, numerous paintings and even frescoes. In Karatepe, many clay and sand domed stupas were built to store the relics. The world-famous Japanese archaeologist Kato Kyuzo put a lot of effort into studying the secrets of Karatepa. For his work, Professor Kato Kyudzo was awarded the highest award of Uzbekistan - Dustlik.
- Zurmala Tower (view from a distance) is another of the Buddhist monuments of ancient Termez 1-3 century AD. In ancient times, a whole Buddhist village was located in this part of the city, but already in the Middle Ages this part of the territory became farmland. Only a huge stupa that has lost all its facings has survived to this day. Now it looks like a shapeless block, but scientists during excavations found out that the stupa had a pedestal in the form of a rectangle, on which there was a monolithic cylinder of the tower.
