Transfer to the airport and take domestic flight to Nukus.
Arrival in Nukus and transfer to the hotel (standard check-in time is after 14:00).

Nukus is the capital of the autonomous republic of Karakalpakstan, which is part of Uzbekistan. Before the tragedy that befell the Aral Sea, Nukus was a city with a developing industry, but today the city's ecosystem needs constant support. Fishing and shipping are now impossible here.
The purpose of our visit to Nukus is the famous collection of Igor Savitsky. The museum of the city of Nukus displays the second most valuable collection of paintings by the Russian avant-garde of 1920-1930. Savitsky worked as part of the Khorezm Archaeological-Ethnographic Expedition, and then conducted independent excavations and collections of folk applied art. These collections became the source of the museum. This largest fictional period covers over 4 millennia. A special part of the museum's exhibitions is the collection of fine art. Here you can see local works of both local and Russian artists who lived in this region, the so-called "Turkestan avant-garde". The collection of the Moscow avant-garde and post-avant-garde of the 1920-1930s, as well as a group of non-conformists from the Moscow underground of the 1960-1970s, is also significant. Thousands of works by masters of the brush who did not receive official recognition, became outcasts in the USSR, and found refuge in distant Nukus.

A visit to the museum will leave a lasting impression on art lovers. No wonder it is called "The Louvre in the Sands".

After the excursion, return to the hotel.

  • Today we will head towards the infamous Aral Sea and visit the city of Muynak, formerly a seaside port and fishing center. After the drying up of the Aral Sea, there is no more water in these places, and only the skeletons of the ships remained in the middle of the salty sands. This majestic but sad spectacle makes you think about the problems of ecology and the careful use of natural resources. The former seashore is now called the Ships Cemetery. But there is always the hope that we can find a way to return the sea to its former size, and waves will splash again in the place of the sands. And new fishing vessels will come to replace the abandoned ships.

From Nukus to Muynak we will drive 3-4 hours one way, have lunch in Muynak, and in the evening we will return to Nukus.
